PostHeaderIcon What Happens To Businesses That Dont Get Found In A Local Business Search

Every business in the country harbors dreams of striking it real big and going on to the international scene in some shape or form. That is a good dream to have, but first you must capture your local market.

The first step that a business should take is to get their business online.   Consumers in today’s world, especially under the age of 50, use the internet as their main source of information.   This includes when they need a product or service, they go online to compare local providers.  It has never been more convenient ever to make such a comparison with all the information available at the tips of their fingers.

The second step is to make sure that the people in their local community can find them.  Some statistics show that on a ratio of 7 out of every 8 times that a person is looking for a local product or service, they will go to the internet first over the yellow pages or other media.   That ratio will change from industry to industry, but no matter how you look at it you want those odds in your favor.

Earlier this decade, it was the yellow pages which filled that gap between local customers and their neighborhood businesses. However, like with everything else, the internet made it easier to bridge the gap between service providers and customers, and that solution is through a local business search. This is when a potential customer goes to their favorite search engine and types in the name of the product or service that they are looking for and follow that with a city and state, maybe even a zip code.

What comes next is that they receive back a list of results, most likely one of those results contains the business they are going to spend their money with.  Is your business there or are they finding your competition?  If you are not sure I would encourage you to go see for yourself.  Go to Google, type in the name of your product or service and follow it with the city and state of your target area and see what you come up with.  Hopefully it is your business and not your competitions.

Local search is so powerful that giants like Google and other major search engines have their own local search services which even include maps and directions. Most of the modern search engines have special filters in place that search in specific demographic models, and this certainly is the future.  If you have a business that primarily caters to a local audience you must get online and be found by the people that are looking for you.

The bottom line is that if a business is not on the internet, they are missing out on a large chunk of today’s shoppers; everyone looks on the web first today. On that same note if they are not properly set up to be found on a local business search like Google local or any other local search for that matter, they virtually don’t exist in the eyes of the consumer!  Get online and get local.

PostHeaderIcon Black-Owned Businesses: Addressing The “how To,” When Feeling The “why Bother?”

With all the discussion about the growth industries including health, IT, education, green technologies, etc. that will lead the country out of its fiscal slump, you do not hear much about Black-owned businesses being a “growth area,” but it should be.

The primary reason for the launch of many Black-owned businesses was the “concrete ceiling” effect within corporate America that drove promising Black executives into the entrepreneurial arena due to limited advancement opportunities.

Other Black-owned businesses got their start because the founder had an idea and through hard work and tenacity, they fed that idea and built a business.

While that represents the two general viewpoints of Black-owned businesses being relative newcomers to the scene, that concept is not altogether true. Black-owned businesses were the staples of segregated Black communities before those business start-up concepts took place, so there is a long, and sometimes, tragic history of Black-owned businesses and a track record for their success despite tremendous obstacles.

Despite current economic conditions, there are still opportunities for those interested in starting a businesses and seeking out these growth areas to reach their full potential.

Black-owned businesses are able to personalize their service platforms and incorporate a unique cultural awareness all their own. According to Elbert McQuiller in his article, “Black-Owned Businesses Leverage Social Networks to Grow,” today’s technological advances are making it possible for many Black-owned businesses to “overcome some of the pervasive discriminatory practices that have plagued the Black community for years by denying them equal access to capital and subsequently limiting the growth potential of their businesses.”

Access to capital has always been problematic for minority businesses and increased funding options by community banks and other investment models has generated a new era for financing possibilities for aspiring entrepreneurs to step to the table with a business plan.

The National Black Chamber of Commerce estimates that there are one million Black-owned businesses in the United States that accounts for more than 0 billion in sales. However, Black-owned businesses are still classified as “small business” in comparison to other groups.

What are some of the tools that businesses can utilize to grow their companies and to maintain their competitive advantage? First, networking and building a support base with organizations that are geared towards providing resources and contacts is crucial. Organizations including the National Minority Supplier Development Council along with the National Black Chamber of Commerce provide Black-owned businesses direct contact with the “movers and shakers” in the public and private sectors who can help them grow and develop their business.

The United States Small Business Administration and the United States Department of Commerce—Minority Business Development Agency are government organizations that can also provide businesses with information and access to vital resources.

Also, businesses should join trade organizations specific to the company’s product or service model. The global arena provides new opportunities and marketplaces for businesses to bring their unique style. Having strong business acumen, building solid relationships and maintaining a flexible approach will help Black-owned businesses to continue their storied history of survival and success despite the odds.

Learn How To Start Your Own Home Based Business Online

You’ve considered carefully that the network marketing internet business and sales are still in their infancy. You know that the number of new businesses and new users on the Internet is growing quickly. But, what are the successful home businesses doing right? What are the failed home businesses doing wrong? A home business start up needs to be carefully considered as it requires a lot of work and learning.

Successful Home Businesses Got It Right

You’ve read that network marketing internet business is done easily, quickly and inexpensively. The audience is growing. There are untold opportunities to become a success owning and managing your own online business and earn profits from home. What are you waiting for?

There is no magic wand to wave that creates successful home businesses. Developing your home business takes time, dedication an hard work. While it can be minimal, there is often a necessary financial outlay and investment. Before you head down the path to building your home business, there are some questions you need to answer for yourself.

1. What is it You Are Going to Sell?

1.1. Marketing and Selling Goods

There are two primary opportunities here. You could manufacture and sell a good yourself as some successful home businesses do. For example, you could handle a line of baby blankets. You would do the design work, purchase the raw material, manufacture and package the blankets, manage your inventory, market the items, take the orders, ship the items out and process the payments and returns. Or, you could find a company with an affiliate program that would allow you to do the marketing and sales, while handling the manufacturing and administration for you.

Consider creating your own product if you’re doing a home business start up. If you have expertise in a particular area – jewelry making, for example, you could develop your own e-book or “how-to” manual, marketing and delivering it through related websites and other electronic means of distribution. Successful home businesses have been doing this on the web for a long time with great rewards.

1.2. Marketing and Selling Services

Are you interested in selling services that have the possibility of generating residual income and creating a business that rivals other successful home businesses? What kind or types of services are suitable for this? If you have a service that both new and existing customers would use on a continuing basis, you could begin to develop a stream of passive income. One option is to review existing web sites and providing consulting on managing the site, along with technical advice to the client.

2. No matter your size, you need a business plan.

You wouldn’t start a road journey without a map and neither do successful home businesses. You can’t start a network marketing internet business without a plan. You need to be able to state where you are, where the market potential is, the demand for your products and services and how you intend to obtain them, how you will market them, how you will collect the money, how you will deliver these goods and services and, of course, how you will finance all of this. Your business plan should include your goals – immediate, middle and long term as do successful home businesses. You should include a budge for the basic plan and provide for periodic check ups to determine whether or not you are on course.

3. If you want to be like the other successful home businesses then you must plan your e-business strategy. From day one, you must be able to accept an order, accept payment (credit cards are best) and deliver the product. If you cannot do this on your own account, you must consider joining a program that allows you to create a credible business presence and yet deliver exactly what it is the customer has ordered. In simple terms, you should seek out an affiliate program for your network marketing internet business.

4. Your copy must be well written and compelling. Any written or photographic material presented on your website must be both compelling and professional. Nothing will turn potential clients away faster than a “loving hands, made at home” look”. Investing in professional services may well be the best investment you can make in a website as many other successful home businesses have done in the past.

5. If it were quick and easy, everyone would be doing a home business start up. You will have to invest two important components into your e-business – time and effort. A financial commitment may also be required for you to get your website up and running, obtaining the skills you need and to market your business.  Stories about successful home businesses aren’t always true.

6. Location, Location, Location. In real estate it’s always “location, location, location”. In the world of internet business, it’s “the list, the list, the list”. Or to put it another way, “there’s gold in them damn lists. You must drive traffic to your site and onto your list of visitors.  A strategy and advertising that does this is of untold value and a common model that successful home businesses follow.

7. Keep your balance and don’t lose your discipline. The hardest thing in the world to convince your family, friends and pets of, is that when you’re working on the computer, you’re actually working. Owners of home based business face this all the time. You may have to turn the ringer off on your phone. You may have to put a “Do Not Disturb” sign on your door. You may even have to let the laundry go until the next day. Make a work schedule and stick to it if you wanna join the ranks of other successful home businesses. Remember that this is next month’s mortgage payment you’re working on. On the other hand, do not spend so much time in front of the computer that your family considers putting on an APB on you. Remember that fresh air and exercise can clear your mind and refresh your outlook. Above all, though, remember to walk the dog.

8. Thou shalt not spam. You don’t see successful home businesses spamming their mailing list for a good reason. Treat your customers’ e-mail the way you want yours to be treated. You know how annoying it is to constantly try to dig through the spam to get to the important items. The result of spamming could be devastating to your network marketing internet business. You don’t need that. Businesses whose products and services are legitimate and well priced will always stand head and shoulders above the spammer. Spamming can cost you more in lost good will and interest than the amount of business it can bring in. Not to mention, spamming can totally kill a home business start up.

All in all, don’t be a “woulda, coulda, shoulda” wannabe who never tried to joing the ranks of other successful home businesses. If you are thoughtful, plan well, execute, follow through and then have the discipline to review and revise your plan as necessary, becoming a successful network marketing internet business is well within your grasp.

How to Win Friends & Influence People By Dale Carnegie
The author discusses methods for developing business relationships, a critical first step to any successful home based business. He opens the book with “If You Want to Gather Honey, Don’t Kick Over the Beehive”. I like to reread this book every five or ten years.

Rich Dad Poor Dad By Robert Kiyosaki
This is an educational tale about a boy growing up with two dads; his biological father and his friend’s father who treated him as his own son. His Poor Dad encouraged him to succeed in school and to get a good job later in life. His Rich Dad encouraged him to learn the power and knowledge of investing.

Overall, this book is an excellent read. It will help you to build a strong foundational base for a long and successful entrepreneurial career. The author worked closely with Dale Carnegie to develop this and other business books. Napoleon Hill shares with us his 15 laws of success and 13 principles of person achievement.

The One Minute Millionaire – The Enlightened Way to Wealth. By Mark Victor Hansen and Robert Allen
This misnomer titled book has a blueprint for building wealth; it literally has a flow chart of “the one minute millionaire system”. The book lists a set of epiphanies that lead toward financial wealth.

The Millionaire Next Door By Thomas Stanley and William Danko
The authors compare and contrast “Under Accumulators of Wealth” to “Prodigious Accumulators of Wealth” to illustrate the difference in habits and actions of wealthy people and everybody else. This is one of the business books that will help you to take an introspective look at yourself.

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People By Steven Covey
Steven Covey’s title really does say it all. He writes about the specific traits and behavior required to be effective; this applies directly to having a successful home based business.

How Come That Idiot’s Rich and I’m Not? By Robert Shemin
This book may just top my list of Business Books as my very favorite. Although the author is not particularly eloquent, he really did hit the nail on the head for me personally. The question is, if you are doing all the right things, why are you not more financially successful? He does a great job of summarizing all of the other books on the list.

So that’s my list of business books which I personally recommend to help you become a successful entrepreneur and to operate a successful home based business. Knowledge is power. Best Internet Business Books

PostHeaderIcon Small Business Management Software ? The Future for Small Businesses?

All businesses have ups and downs during the financial year and it is the role of owners and managers to do all they can to steady finances during these times. Obviously small businesses do not have as much capital to cushion them when times get tough, but with clever spending and strategies a small business can help itself to be profitable.

Many business owners and managers do not realise that they are spending money needlessly each years on systems and applications that they could live without. This may seem like quite a weighty claim, but it isn’t. By replacing all of a business’s current customer contact, quoting, invoicing and document storage applications with small business management software a small business could save a small fortune each year.

Small business management software, via one web based application can do all of the things mentioned above – and more besides. It is a total software solution which is suitable for any small business that wants to stay ahead of the pack and provide excellent customer service at the same time.

By being able to perform the majority of tasks and process via one application a great deal of time is saved when employees start using small business management software. Instead of logging into several applications each morning and waiting for them to load, an employee will simply log into their small business management software application. They can then start to work straight from the one, single application. This means that not only will time and money be saved on buying licences for various applications,  processes and procedures will become much more streamlined.

One problem that small businesses faced prior to small business management software was the correct storage of documents. This included quotes, invoices and even customer contact information and other relevant documents. When documents are not stored correctly they can quickly become lost which can lead to delays in orders being processed and invoices not being chased. To a small business these losses can spell a drastic downturn in profits, which can lead to even bigger issues within the business.

A business that chooses to use small business management software will find that document loss is no longer a problem for them. All documentation can be held securely and safely on the application and can be accessed with ease by anyone with the appropriate level of authority. Not only does this provide a business with an effective and efficient way of storing documents, it also helps them to improve customer service through always having the correct information to hand regarding customer accounts.

Small businesses have always struggled to find the right applications for their needs and finding the right one was often a process filled with costly mistakes. Small business management software helps any business with less than 50 employees create a brighter future through better customer contacts, increased productivity and fewer wasted man hours. As anyone involved in a business knows it is these aspects of a business that make it profitable, so it makes sense to get it right.
